Occupation, torture, and violations of nuclear safety

Russia's occupation of Ukraine, including the capture of the Ukrainian city of Enerhodar and the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in March 2022, was an unprecedented event in modern history: the first military occupation of a functioning commercial nuclear power plant. This occupation, now in its fourth year, has led to human rights violations, breaches of international law, and acute risks to nuclear safety and security with far-reaching national and global consequences.

Rebecca Harms (former MEP), Roman Koval (Truth Hounds) and Yana Lysenko (FSO Bremen) will provide insights into the situation in the Russian-occupied territories in general and in Enerhodar and the ZNPP in particular. The discussion, moderated by Eduard Klein (FSO Bremen) will focus on how the Russian occupation are jeopardizing nuclear safety not only at the local level, but also at the European and global levels.
